How we handle it
When a furnace stops heating, the cause is usually one of a handful of parts: the igniter, the flame sensor, a capacitor, or the control board. These are repairs, and most are done in one visit.
We test the system from thermostat to flue. That includes a combustion and carbon monoxide test, because a furnace that heats badly can also be venting badly.
A yearly tune-up catches worn parts before the first cold night. It takes about an hour and ends with a written report on the condition of the system, including anything we think will need attention in the next year or two.
If you smell gas, leave the house and call your gas utility’s emergency line from outside. If a carbon monoxide alarm sounds, get everyone outside and call emergency services. Call us once you are safe.
