How we handle it
The panel is where power from the utility is divided into the circuits in your home. Many older homes have 60 or 100 amps of service, which was enough before air conditioning, induction cooktops, and car chargers.
We start with a load calculation, which adds up what your home draws now and what you plan to add. That tells us whether a like-for-like replacement is enough or whether you need a larger service from the utility.
On the day, power is off for four to eight hours. We remove the old panel, fit and label the new one, and bring grounding and bonding up to current code. We arrange the permit and the inspection, and we coordinate the shutoff and reconnection with your utility.
If your panel is warm to the touch, smells of burning, or shows scorch marks, stop using the affected circuits and call us. If you see smoke or flames, leave the house and call emergency services.
